Essential apps for students

As you’re practising for your exams, you’ll obviously be focused on learning how to tackle certain types of questions, completing test papers and shoring up your subject matter but, in addition to all of the resources here on site, having a few carefully selected apps downloaded to your smartphone or tablet can also help you feel confident in your abilities and help you give your best performance.

So, which apps are essential for students and what should you download now to supplement our videos and past papers?

Oxford Dictionary

A good dictionary is an essential tool for any student – but they can be a bit too cumbersome to lug around or pull out every day as you’re practising. The Oxford English Dictionary has a handy app which is much more convenient when you don’t want another big, heavy book. It’s available for iOS and Android and documents over 350,000 words, phrases and meanings, so you can double check what a certain word is or find exactly the right word to use in your practise essays.

Google Drive

If the dog ever has eaten your homework, you’ll know exactly how gutting it is to lose something that you’ve slaved over. To keep your study notes and practise essays safe and secure, set up a Google Drive. This works just like a hard drive but stores files online, so you can access them on your computer, on the computer in the library at school and on your phone. If you’re working on a project with someone else or have a revision study buddy, you can also collaborate on documents online, even when you’re in separate locations.

Chegg

Creating flash cards is a great way to help you remember certain facts, dates, formulas and other information about the subjects you study. Chegg is an easy way to create them on your phone – there are premade templates to use or you can make your own, add images and even share with your friends so you can study together.

My Study Life

If you find it hard to keep track of when course work and assignments are due, when your exams are and what you still have to revise, the My Study Life app can help you get organised. It’s built just for students, so you can create to do lists to organise your school work and exam prep, get reminders and keep track of everything without feeling overwhelmed.
