We’re here to help provide you with some easy steps to banish distractions to help you stay focused during exam season can be super difficult – you’ve endured weeks if not months of revision, started to take exams and the end is in sight.

It’s easy to fall into bad habits here but really important to hunker down, stick to your revision schedule and work your way to the finish line.

Here’s a few easy ways you can ensure your last few weeks of revision in between exams are productive and distraction free.

1. Banish Distractions: Find a space where you won’t be disturbed

It’s more important than ever to find a space where you won’t be disturbed to carry out your final revision sessions during exam season. If you bedroom has a TV, computer and other distractions that could lure you away from your books, head to the library or somewhere similar to ensure that you stay focused and on track.

2. Work in blocks of time

The human brain wasn’t designed to focus for long lengths of time so work in chunks or blocks instead and follow up with a short break. Taking regular breaks might feel like you’re wasting time but, if you stretch out study sessions, all that will happen is that your mind will begin to wander and you’ll become more susceptible to distractions.

3. Put music on in the background

Many people find it hard to concentrate when it’s silent. If that sounds like you, you’ll probably find it hard to focus in the total quiet, making you more susceptible to distractions. To help you hone in on your revision, put some background music on – if you don’t have a favourite playlist, do an online search for ‘music to study to’ or, download some white noise to act as background noise that won’t distract.

4. Align your revision timetable with your personal productivity

Some people are at their very best first thing in the morning while it takes others a while to get going. Think about when you do your best work and find it easier to concentrate and then plan your revision accordingly. If you are someone who finds it very difficult to focus first thing in the morning, there is very little point setting your alarm for 6,30am to work on your maths or science revision. Plan your more complex tasks, or the subjects or topics you find the hardest for the period of the day when you work best. That way, you’ll be more likely to tune out distractions and won’t find it difficult to get stuck in.
