We recommend your students take this assessment both before the 6-week trial and after they have used the platform for 6 weeks to measure their progress.
Maths
We have created standardised assessments for GCSE Maths for the 6 week pilots. For Maths, this takes the form of one assessment paper. Your students should take this before the 6-week trial and then the same paper after, to measure their progress.
English
For English, our educators recommend setting students your choice of your exam board’s past Component 1 papers, selecting two different year’s papers for the pre- and post-pilot assessment.
These papers can be found on your exam board’s website directly.
Your students will take these assessments on paper before moving onto the SchoolOnline platform to to start their learning.

Creating Assignments
For Your Pilot
The 6 weeks of study during the pilot will be based on the “6 Weeks to a Grade 4” course, available in the Courses section of the platform.
You will be setting each week’s course content as an “assignment” so you can track your students’ work and their results. We will prepare these lists for you so they are all ready to be set as assignments (and can help with setting the assignments as well!).
To support you in creating and marking assignments on SchoolOnline Classroom we have also attached two tutorial videos, walking you through how to set your assignments. If you would like any more support using the platform you can head over to our tutorial videos by clicking here or contact our live helpdesk through the green bubble in the bottom right hand corner.
Top Tips For Running a Pilot
Below are some tips which we have noticed have worked well in previous pilot programmes and which may be useful to implement in your pilot.
- Set aside the appropriate amount of time to allow your students to look over and study the content. Each week’s programme is designed to be around 1 hour, with 30 minutes on both maths and English.
- We strongly suggest asking the students to watch our expertly designed videos after each question they don't fully understand, all of which are created and produced by teachers. These videos show the pupils exactly how to approach each question and the subsequent answers are included, so that they can take ownership of their own learning.
- Be flexible: not all students will want to or be able to work at the pace you expect. Therefore, the codes they have been given are created to allow them to access the programme at home too, should they need extra time or more help in the supported sessions.
- Be sure to check the learning that has taken place in each session and where needed, direct your students to the extra quizzes that can be found in the interactive mode in each assignment in order to support them in their areas for improvement.
- Keep in touch: be sure to tell us if you need any help before, during and after your pilot. We have run many successful pilots and we are sure this one will be no different.
